What Is Wood Wool?

Wood wool is a light bio degradable void filler made from shredded timber. You would have probably seen wood wool either in a gift hamper or wine that has been packaged. Wood wool was invented over 200 years ago and was very popular in the pottery industry along with cushioning for teddy bears and stuffing of stuffed animals.

It was used to keep items safe and secure whilst they were transported on the back of horse carts. At the start of the 19th century wood wool was the most popular form of loose void fill packaging. However something happened in the 50’s. Polystyrene void filler became popular and wood wool seemed to fade away most of the companies manufacturing wood wool had to close as the demand was not there anymore.

The world is going green and eco friendly products are on the rise to save our planet. Wood Wool is one of the oldest greenest forms of packaging void filler around today.
